Arrival Story: I adopted Vanessa in June 2006 from a no-kill cat shelter in Richmond where she had been dropped off along with her 8-week old kittens a few days earlier. Vanessa's previous home was in Surrey where she lived in a trailer with her family (which included several little kids and a dog). When I first saw Vanessa (or Creamcheese as she was called at the time) I was surprised at how small and thin she was and how little fur she seemed to have. Giving birth twice in a six-month period had obviously taken a toll on her. I am grateful that her previous family decided to bring her to the shelter the same week I had decided to adopt another cat, because otherwise who knows what might have happened next. Vanessa was spayed the day after I met her and came to live with Toffy and me the following day.
Bio: Vanessa is a beautiful white cat with green eyes and pale pink ears and nose. She has become much furrier than I ever expected; the fur on her head and around her face is especially soft to the touch... and you should see how fluffy her tail is. She is rather skittish, which means she's playful and energetic (I love watching her bounce off the scratching post) but does not like being held, brushed or petted much... and she doesn't hesitate to let me know it. That said, there are times when she lets me cradle her in my arms like a baby for the longest time all the while purring contentedly. I realize that Vanessa may have had to endure abuse from the little kids in her previous home, not to mention the mean streets when she managed to get outside. She has adjusted very well here and I am happy that she is part of the family.

This morning shortly after breakfast I fooled Mom by digging around in my litter box but not actually going. I did this twice and each time Mom went to scoop she found nothing. Meanwhile, Toffy had made a big poop in his litter box. It was over 4 inches long and all in once piece… it didn't even break apart when Mom removed it from the litter box and dumped it in the toilet. What a sturdy piece of poop! MOL! Oh… sorry, kits, I didn't mean to gross you out. But if you don't mind a little silliness involving poop, read on…
Mom wasn't supposed to witness anything, but she just happened to be in the room… when she saw me go to use the bathroom litter box… aka Toffy's litter box! I hadn't gone in that litter box for the longest time. Ever since that box has been filled with a certain kitty litter, I have refused to use it. I think Mom was glad because she knew that anything she found in that box was produced by Toffy. So when she dug up another big over 4 inches long sturdy piece of poop she was rather surprised, knowing that it came from me. Of course, if only she hadn't seen me, she would have thought it was another of Toffy's poops, which is what I wanted her to think. MOL! I guess I need to be a bit sneakier next time…
Hey, kits, guess what type of raw meat I ate today! Quick! Close your eyes, think of your answer, then read below to see if you guessed it right.
A bit of background information first. Mom recently bought a few different varieties of premade raw meat for Toffy and me to try in addition to the meat she prepares with the Instincts Plus by Feline Future. She probably thinks all raw meat is the same, and is finding out that it isn't. For example, while Toffy ate the raw duck meat only if it was mixed with some canned food such as Fancy Feast or Wellness, I refused to touch the stuff even when it was mixed with my regular meat.
This morning Mom opened a different package of premade raw cat food (not the same brand as the duck) and gave Toffy and me several pieces to taste. We both liked this food immediately. You know what the food was? It was emu! Now that's a different type of meat! I just hope the emu isn't on the endangered species list, because it actually tastes quite good. MOL!
Well, for lunch Mom gave us more emu to eat. I only ate a little bit this time and Toffy ate about half of what was in his food bowl. We were both hungry again several hours later and Mom fed us the leftover emu from lunch. I again ate only a little bit and refused to eat any more even at Mom's insistence. Toffy ended up eating all of the emu left over from his lunch and mine. Mom served me about two tablespoons of kibbles instead, no doubt thinking that I didn't like the emu cat food after all.
Later in the evening, I jumped onto the kitchen counter and watched Mom place Toffy's food bowl on the scale and then add pieces of the ground emu until the scale read 26 grams. Mom told me I would be getting more kibbles in a few minutes. Well, guess what I did, kits! I started eating the emu cat food right out of Toffy's food bowl that was still on the scale. Toffy was standing on the floor clueless about what was going on. I say clueless because he didn't try to stop me from eating his food, and neither did Mom. She told me that I was a good girl and watched as the number on the scale kept getting lower while I continued to eat. When I had finished eating, the number on the scale read "6" and there was only a little bit of emu meat left in the food bowl. Kittens, if you know your math that means I ate 20 grams of Toffy's food. Only 6 grams of food left for Toffy? You don't say!
Meow! Meow!
Vanessa
P.S. Toffy didn't have to starve. Mom added more ground emu to the food bowl, for a total of 31 grams, and not surprisingly Toffy ate it all.
