Abyssinian Siamese Mix Kittens
Abyssinian Siamese mix kittens aren’t the easiest to track down, but you can often find mixes in shelters if you can’t track down a breeder. Just keep in mind that kittens and cats in shelters often contain more than two types of breeds, so you might be getting a cat with some other breeds mixed in there as well.
However, if you can track down an Abyssinian Siamese mix kitten, you can expect them to be extremely active, but they’re also among the most loving kittens you can find.
Temperament & Intelligence of the Abyssinian Siamese Mix
An Abyssinian Siamese mix is an incredibly smart and loving cat. That’s because both Abyssinian and Siamese cats are intelligent and friendly, so regardless of which parent breed they take, after you’re getting a great cat!
But keep in mind that each cat will have their own personality, and socialization is a huge part of the way any cat will act, so take the time to socialize and train them properly before you simply assume they’ll act a certain way because of their genes.
Are These Cats Good for Families? 👪
These cats are outstanding family pets that generally get along with everyone in the family. With proper socialization, they get along great with kids of all ages, but it’s important to teach your kids how to interact with them too.
They’re active, but because of their smaller size, it’s easy for children to wind up hurting them accidentally. Also, keep in mind that these cats can bond with one person more than everyone else, and if this happens, they might display clear favoritism.
Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets?
Generally, an Abyssinian Siamese mix will get along well with other cats and dogs. However, they are still cats, and it’s very common for them to go after small pets like lizards and birds. Just keep in mind that each cat will have their own personality that you need to learn about as they grow and mature.
Some Abyssinian Siamese mixed cats won’t like hanging out with other cats or dogs, while others will happily get along with all pets, including smaller ones like birds or hamsters (although you should never leave your cat alone with them). Get to know your cat, and always start slow with socialization!
Things to Know When Owning an Abyssinian Siamese Mix
The last thing you want to do is bring home a cat only to realize you didn’t know exactly what you were getting yourself into. With that in mind, we’ve highlighted a few of the basic things you should know when owning an Abyssinian Siamese mix.
Food & Diet Requirements 🐡
Feeding your cat a high-quality diet is a huge part of being a responsible pet owner, and the exact amount you’ll need to feed your Abyssinian Siamese mix cat varies quite a bit depending on their size and activity levels.
Smaller Abyssinian Siamese mix cats need about ½ cup of high-quality kibble daily, while larger ones need about ¾ cup daily. When you break down the cost, you can expect to spend between $10 and $20 a month on the necessary kibble for your cat.
If you want to feed them wet food, you can expect to spend about $50 a month, and for fresh food, the price is closer to $75 a month.
Exercise 🐈
Abyssinian Siamese mix cats are extremely active, and because of this, they need lots of exercise. We recommend trying to play with them for about an hour each day and ensuring they have plenty of space to roam and run around in your home.
They also do well with another cat to play with, although they’ll still need plenty of attention and interactions with their owner specifically.
Training 🧶
If you’re looking to train your cat to complete complex tasks, the Abyssinian Siberian mix might not be a great choice, but for more ordinary tasks like litter box training, they do incredibly well and usually master these tasks almost immediately.
Whenever training your cat to do anything, always bring plenty of treats, as they’re very reward-driven, and you likely won’t be able to train them at all without a few tasty snacks on hand.
Grooming ✂️
Abyssinian Siamese mix cats do a phenomenal job of grooming themselves, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to do anything. You still need to brush them out about once a week, and you’ll need to brush their teeth daily to keep up with their oral hygiene. You also should give them baths every once in a while, but no more than once every 6 weeks with a cat-safe shampoo.
Health and Conditions 🏥
Generally, these cats are a healthy breed that suffers from few medical issues, especially if you get them from a reputable breeder. Other factors that can help reduce the medical issues they suffer from include feeding them a high-quality diet and ensuring they get plenty of exercise. With those things in mind, we’ve highlighted some medical conditions you should watch for.
- Feline asthma
- Pyruvate kinase deficiency
- Kidney disease
- Cardiovascular disease
- Gingivitis
Male vs. Female
Generally, there isn’t much of a difference between males and females. Male cats tend to stand a bit larger than females from the same litter, but the parent breed they take after makes more of a difference than their gender. If they take after their Siamese parent, they should be a bit heavier, but their overall height doesn’t change much.
