I have had my cat Miss Kitty for 9 years and all the sudden she is peeing in my snake plants?

How do we stop our russian blue cat from digging in our indoor plants? Ash is male and spayed?

We spray him with water for other issues but we can't catch him in the act of indoor plant digging. What do i do now?
