Worried about seperation anxiety
My husband and I are planning a vacation for a week and driving down to South Carolina. I have engaged a cat sitter I know very well to come twice a day to feed, brush, scoop boxes for my three cats. However, I'm feeling worried now about going. You see, we moved a few months ago, and the cats went from having my sister who lived upstairs and came and spent some time with them to just us.
Also, we now have Smokie Boo. Smokie Boo appears to be having seperation anxiety, and even when I go to the bathroom, will walk around crying til he finds me.
My vet thinks they'll be fine. She pointed out that they cope when we're at work-my husband finds them sleeping when he comes home. But being away for 8 hours at a time is different than being away for a week. I'm going to ask my stepdad to come over and spend time during the day with them. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm a very worried and attached mom but I hate to think of Smokie and my eldest girl Bella pining for me!

I know it's heartbreaking - having someone come in and spend time with them is helpful. My cat Joey has separation issues - I call the answering machine and talk to him - he knocks the phone off the hook every time! How about leaving a radio on softly in the background - I have heard that works for some people. Don't fret Mama - Bella will be fine and all the more excited to see you when you get back!
