Why won't our kitten grow?
Jingles is 7 months old and only 2 pounds. We have been to the vet and have tested negative for feline leukemia, feline HIV, and worms. Her blood work only showed low protein levels. They said they can continue to run more tests but it is getting very costly. She vomits on cat food but does very well digesting chicken, turkey and beef that I grind in the food processor. Can a cat be allergic to something in processed food?

What diagnoses has the vet given you? What is the course of treatment they've suggested? Have they offered you a special diet for her? Hills makes a good prescription diet line that my cats and dogs have been on. It's quite possible that she's allergic to "normal" food and may require a special diet for life. We do have a forums on Catster for how to feed your cat and one for a raw diet. But before tinkering with her food, I'd have a chat with my vet to find out where their concerns lie and what their diet plans are for her. There are also veterinary referral clinics that they can suggest to you. These clinics are staffed with board certified specialists, and often one of those specialities will be gastroenterology.

She could very well be having a bad reaction to something in the commercial cat food.
Regarding her small size, I have an 11-year old cat who has never weighed more than five pounds. She has always been very small, weighed next to nothing as a baby and looks like a 6 month old kitten. Some cats are just tiny.
