why my cat does not lapsit on me?
hello, i adopted a cat 9 months ago and she's about 2 years old. i read your article on how to socialize a cat and i want to train her so she will let me hold her. i can only pick her up for up to a minute and then she wants to get down. she does not even lapsit on me. is there a way to train her to lapsit? you talked about how to hold a cat propertly and i'd like to try it but i am still afraid she'll scratch me. thanks in advance for your help.

Cats are hard to train. Chances are you would have had to start training him to sit on your lap as a kitten. It's possible your cat sees your lap as a moving surface if you tend to move around a lot when your sitting. I doubt very seriously that he really meant anything by that head shake but you're right it was weird. I've had cats all my life and they are all different in their like and dislikes when it comes to being held. I had a cat not long ago that followed me around all day long and would fall all over her self trying to get me to pet her constantly, but she would scratch and struggle and eventually scream if I tried to pick her up and hold her. It was just not in her nature to be held for some reason.

All cats are different. Some like to be held & sit in your lap, other's don't. I don't know if I'd try to force her to do anything that she doesn't want to do.
I hate being held & I'm not a lap cat. I do love snuggling up right next to Mommy & I love to lay across her arm & let her pet me.
Cats show love & affection in their own ways.
