I do what Maggie's mom does. I clip one paw (or even one claw) at a time, sometimes one a day. I keep the clipper by my chair and when Izzie's up there and asleep, I try very quickly to "do" a paw. You must be extremely careful not to clip into the pink "quick" that you can see through their claw. That's VERY painful and will turn them off clipping for good. Also, if your baby goes through three thousand fits, leave it up to the vet. They charge about $9.00 to clip all their claws and it's well worth it.

Cats/kittens get so dramatic because they don't know that you won't hurt them.Use treats.Put your kitty in your lap and hold a treat of high value ex.beef.fish.
Let it eat the treat while he sees the nail clipper at the same time.Then put the clipper on his paw and feed it another treat.Then give him/her a bigger treat and with your one hand *slowly* get the paw and with the other try to clip the nails.Don't forget to give treats.
It might not work the first times because your first have to introduce the clipper to the kitty.
make the kitty understand that:
clippers=treats

They are all that way until you get them used to it. Most of my girls were started at their breeder so they were pretty good about it but I did Maggie's for the first time yesterday and she struggled and cried like I was trying to kill her. I just have tiny scissor style ones and there is very little chance of hurting them as long as you only take off the clear hook on the end. Stay away from the thicker part past the hook where you can see the vein inside and you'll never need that styptic powder. The other poster's advice is good about giving treats. I also try to keep the clippers handy so I can do it when the cats are already calm and relaxed. Don't try to interrupt play time to do it and hold him in your lap for cuddles for a bit before you try to clip them. You can also try to do one paw at a time and let him escape and relax in between to keep him calm.
