Why is my cat still so upset 24 hours after the vet?
My boyfriend and I recently adopted a companion cat for our six month old kitten. He is 9 months old and we've owned him for 5 days. We took him to the vet yesterday to have him checked out (and thank God we did. The organization we adopted him from told us the wrong things about his health), but ever since then (about 24 hours) he has been huddling in the bathroom, sometimes just hiding in his litter box, and refusing to sit with us. Before the visit he was loving and sweet. He liked to sit in our laps and nudge our faces. Why hasn't he gone back to being like that? Is he still upset with us for taking him to the vet?

This poor little guy has gone through a LOT in the past week! He's gone from the security of where he was before to a completely strange place where they took him to another strange place, maybe he got poked with needles, it smelled funny (like scared/sick animals), etc. He's also got a new sib that maybe doesn't like him so much all the time. This is NOT your fault--it's just the way it is when you adopt. You obviously did the right thing by taking him to his own vet. Stay in contact with them to make sure he has no health concerns. Wait for him to come around. It takes time, love and patience. When he ventures out, don't make a big fuss or grab him. Let him explore his new home on his own. Keep him safe, speak softly to him, engage him in some gentle playtimes with you both. Make sure no one is loud or in his face. Give treats if he'll take them. Just give him time. Please join Catster and post some photos. We LOVE baby pictures!!!

The little guy has been through a whole lot lately. He needs time to adjust to everything. It's only been 24 hours since his vet visit. He'll come around. Don't push him. Let him come to you. As long as he's eating & drinking & using the litter box like he should, then I wouldn't worry too much.
