Why is my cat pooping where the other cat died?

This past weekend, my sister's 6 year old tabby cat died from an unknown illness. Recently, my 10 year old American Shorthair has been peeing in the areas where my sister's recently deceased cat used to hang out. Why would he be doing this? Is he having issues of his own or is he trying to cover up his scent now that he's gone?
