Why does my new cat eat until the bowl is empty?
I just adopted a new kitty from our local Humane Society. We brought her home and let her look around. Her first night with us, she did little but inspect her new surroundings. But now, we will put a small scoop of food in her bowl and she will just sit and eat the entire scoop. We have the same food that the Society used. I feel bad to leave her food bowl empty, but she eats it all so fast! What should I do?

hen I adopted my cat, he ate like a maniac! He still does sometimes, as well. My cat will lie down in front of the cupboard where we keep his food, and meow, but I try not to give in, as I don't want him to get fat.
Anyway, sometimes for a cat, eating is sort of like a safety blanket. Its the one thing they know about their new surroundings. Or maybe she wasn't getting enough at the Humane Society? Give it some time, and if she does not slow down, see a vet!
