ive had both short hair and long haired cats both seem to shed the same amount give them a brush once a week and you should be good cats tend to groom themselves so not much grooming is needed brushing them once a week will cut down on the shedding and tangles

Morris (Angel)

They both shed about the same amount of hair yet long haired cats' hair that falls off is a lot longer so yes, you could say that long hair shed more.

I agree with both posters as I 've had both long and short-haired kitties. The most important thing you can do is to brush them daily or every other day. That removes the loose/dead hair from them and keeps them from shedding so much.

ive had persians and now a maine coon but the worst i had for shedding was a short hair whose mum was a burmese had another short hair and wondered if she ever shed at all, weather and environment can make a lot of difference too, grooming is always good but unless your prepared to deal with the fact that you might just end up with the cukoo of the bunch that maybe a nightmare shedder than i would not reccomend you get a cat

CaliMay (pudgecicle)

I have a himmie and siamese cross and she is long haired. Her sisters are short haired and I have to say the short hair sheds the most. AS i find the hairs of the short haired cats all over my blankets and wood floor and furniture more so then the white himmie Hair. When I vaccumm I find in the canaster the short haired cats hair and they all occupy the same living spaces. So would have to say Short haired cats., especially if they are stressed out for some reason or hot or shedding cause of weather.
