what happens when a cat loses a nail?

I have 7 6 month old kittens and there mother who is 2 years old.. I found a cat nail on my bed this morning but not sure what kitten it came from, Can it hurt the cat if it lost a nail?

Cats shed their nails naturally - if it is a sliver of the nail - don't worry - this is fine. Check their paws and see if their are any open wounds - if not I think they are fine. If you are really concerned - take the kitty to the vet.

Yes, this is normal if it is just a part of the nail. Just make sure the whole nail is not missing and that there isn't an injury to the cat's paw. I find slivers of my cat's nails around the house once in a while. Just make sure the kittens are all walking fine and then maybe you can figure out which one it is.

My cat actually pulls her's off while cleaning her feet, and I usually find them on my bed. It is a normal part of grooming for them and they learn if from their mother. Don't worry, it looks worse than it actually is.
