trouble releasing hard poop, and once a soft one.

My 10 yr old female is unable to push her poop all the way out, and she rubs her butt on the carpet to release it. Changing her food from dry to wet doesn't seem to help.

Maybe she needs some fiber? try a bit of metamucil powder mixed into the wet. Also, is she getting enough water?

Lenore is right! If she doesn’t drink enough water her poop will be very dry and she won’t be able to release it. You should call your vet so he/she prescribes your cat a natural laxative made for cats. The vet could prescribe also a probiotic to help your cat’s intestinal flora.

Have this kind to intestinal issue is horrible! Help your cat!

If Kitty is long-haired, her poop may be getting "caught up" in the fur. You can visit her vet for a "hygenic trim" in that area. You can also ask her vet to check for impacted anal glands, which are glands on either side of the anal opening. When they become infected and/or impacted, they make it difficult for the cat to poo. The vet can also suggest a diet or food for her that will make it eaiser for her to "go" w/o causing her diarrhea or loose stools. They can also check to make sure she has no internal issues that would cause a breakdown of the natural movement of waste through the bowels.

Please take your kitty to the vet for a check up right now. My 12 year old cat was having that problem, and we thought he was just constipated. When we took him to the vet, we found out he had tummy cancer, and I just had to put him down last Monday. There are holistic and traditional options that work much better if you catch it early. Hopefully it is nothing, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
