Socks is pulling my hair out!

My 7 year old short haired cat, Socks, has been biting and pulling on my hair for a few months. She grooms me sometimes, but this is different. She pulls the hair out of my head when I'm lying down, then proceeds to chew on it. What's up with my Socks?

Cats, like people, can have a disease called "pica" which causes them to eat non-food things. If you notice Socks eating more things she shouldn't, she should go to her vet for medication. If you allow her to pull your hair out and eat it, she will continue. She may simply like the taste of any hair products you use. You need to distract her with some playtime when she starts this. It's not really good for either of you to let her continue to do this. Hair can cause blockages which can at best be very expensive to treat and at worst be fatal to the cat.
