Should my meowmy de-claw me when I get spayed?
I looooove to scratch! I am a little 4-month old feral kitten, and I like to scratch EVERYTHING: walls, people's ankles, furniture, carpet, other cats, bedding, mattresses, the sink, papers, and oh yeah, sometimes I scratch one of my many scratching posts. My Meowmy is concerned that if she takes away my claws, I might miss them, because I really seem to love them! I am strictly indoor, and always will be since we live in the big city. My spay is coming up, so meowmy has to make a decision, fast! Let me know what you think we should do!

No – an emphatic NO. Declawing a cat is a barbaric practice that is actually illegal in some places. Please see the following information www.declawing.com. There are alternatives to declawing a cat - first - training. It is possible to train a cat to use appropriate places for scratching - and not your furniture. It takes time - but it is in the cat's best interest. You need to take the time to groom your cat - and clipping their nails is part of that grooming routine. There are also caps for their nails - soft paws - that you can employ to prevent scratching. But the best thing is a regular clipping schedule and training. Please consider your cat's future health and well being before making a decision based on convenience.

JUST SAY NO!!! Don't de-claw!!!!! It's banned in some countries and even in part of my city, Los Angeles! Can't yr pawrents get lots of scratchy posts fur you?? I scratched at the rug, but when I got a cat tree with sisal on it, that became my new spot to scratch, plus there is cardboard scratchers, sooo many options. Essentially what you are doing is cutting off the first part of what would be your actual finger and bone, if you, hoooooman, was getting declawed...OUCH!!! Poor kitty may develop an aversion to the litter box because it hurts paw to cover the potty...and spay surgery also calms as well-my kitty was so mellow after. Please don't even consider it. With so many alternatives, there's just no reason to ever consider declawing. Look it up on-line and you can see photos and see how truly awful it is.

NO!!! Please, don't de-claw your kitten!!!
Declawing a cat in prohibit in Brazil because it is an amputation! Your cat will be defenseless and it could bring to him some psychological issues (he could need anxiolytics and antidepressants for the rest of his live).
My cats loved scratch thing when they were in your cat age, but I encourage them to scratch their scratch post rubbing dry cat nip on it. And I desencourage them to scratch my furniture by saying “NO!” with a firm ton of voice and splashing a little water with a spray (while saying “NO!”). After that I gently pick up the kitten and put him at his scratch post saying encouraging words in a nice ton of voice (such as “Goob boy!”) and pet him a little. It worked!
Declawing in a crime against you beloved cat! Don’t do it!!! It is almost the same that cutting of a human being his fingers...

Don't de-claw your cat! Scratching is a natural thing for cats to do because scratching leaves a trademark scent to 'mark' their territory.
I'm sure you wouldn't deprive your cat of its basic instincts? It's like someone don't like you scratching them with your sharp fingernails and they pull them straight off just to get it over and done with so that they have less trouble.
Spend more time in training your kitty instead. There's some spray-on thingy that leaves a foul scent so that your kitty won't scratch on the surface. Try that. Please, don't de-claw your cat.
