Please help-cat doesnt want to use her litter box!

About 2 weeks ago, a saw a female adult cat in my basement. She was very friendly and i kept it in basement for about a week while i was searching for her owner. I didnt found her owner, so i decided to keep her with me in my apartment. While she was in basement, she eliminated in litter box i bought her. But, now she only eliminates on bed! I didnt change the brand of litter, it is far away from her food and water. I even placed the litter in that room, but she just walks next to it and does it on bed! I am frustrated, and i am even considering putting her back to the street. I dont want to, but i dont have choice. She eats normally, but she didnt once use the litter box. I dont get it why she used it while she was in basement, but not in apartment? Please, help. Your Katarina

Cats are strange folk said Hemmingway. Your cat is simply overwhelmed. Imagine being without a home or love then SNAP someone may care. What do I do? How do I act? What can I do? This is my chance. But I dont know how to act. Wouldnt you want a little slack? How about someone who is evolved enough to at least try? Put your new best friend in a small enclosed place with his box . Feed him good food. Let him have all the fresh water he wants. Treat him with respect. Talk to him from under the door. open the door a crack. Walk away. Animals are like 5 yr old children they only want your love and approval
