new cat scared and old cat howling/crying?

adopted a 2 year old spayed female cat named heidi from local humane society 2 days ago. my 10 year old male neutered persian howls/crys at her and looks for her. weve always laughed when he sees cats out the window and makes this strange noise. strangers think its a baby cryin. she was very affectoinate at the shelter but was born there and never left. when home she hasnt come out from under my furniture and wont socialize with him or me. both have gotten along with other cats. why does he howl at her? what does it mean?

You really need to contact the humane society you adopted Heidi from and ask them for advice on how to introduce these two cats. They should have been keep separate--Heidi in her own room with food/water/litterbox until she became acclimated to the smells and sounds of her new home. And your resident cat needs to be introduced slooooowllly to the new kitty--no leaving them alone together in the same room. There are a lot of "tricks" you can use to intro 2 cats to each other, but you need the advice of your vet or of the humane society. 2 days is not long enough. Sometimes it can take 2 MONTHS. He howls at her because he is trying to establish his territory. He is trying to let her know he is THE BOSS. If you want this to be a successful introduction, you really need to contact the humane society where you adopted her from or your vet to ask how to do it. Good luck and let us know how it's going!
