Need help finding a covered litter box for larger cats.

Hi!

We have always used open litter boxes like the Biddy Cat but lately my mom feels we need a litter box that helps with odor. We are in a large one bedroom apartment with 5 of us. We have 2 litter boxes right now, my mom scoops them twice a day and dumps and washes every 2 weeks. It’s not terribly stinky but my mom would love for more odor control. I am the biggest cat in the house, I only weigh 12lbs but I am very tall and very long and need a larger litter box.

Can you recommend a covered litter box that accommodates larger cats?

I have used the Omega Paw rolling litter box and my mom absolutely HATED it and will NEVER use it again so that suggestion is out, my mom would dread the day she would have to wash the box. I'm open to any others though!

If you happen to have a link to the litter box you use - that would be awesome! Thanks.

My Maggie is a 15 pound (so far) Ragdoll and she does fine with mine. I use the Tidy Cats covered litterbox and I get them at Target. That is the only place I have ever seen them. www.target.com
It's nice to scoop too because the front opens on a hinge. You don't have to take the whole lid off for daily scooping.

Try these

You can also get a big Rubbermaid style tote, cut an opening for the cat, and smooth it with a lighter. You can use the lid for a covered litter box or leave it off if the cat doesn't like covered boxes.

Louie

My boys are all large/long, and I wanted a covered box with high sides because Louie doesn't squat like he used to kinda pees up high. I bought 3 of these at Petco years ago and for replacements as needed, and they've been a big hit. The ones we have don't have a clear top, but you get the idea. Nice and big with a big opening.

Milo

My 17 & 18 lb cats use this one with no problem. Got it for Milo cause he's a litter flinger when he digs, but it's great for the big cats. It's my favorite of my non-automatic boxes.

Dumping once a week will also help you out in the odor department, as will adding as many more litter boxes as your apartment can handle. The mixing of excrement is what causes the most crinkly nose. If your space can even just handle one more you would see a big difference and reduce the possibility of future inappropriate elimination.
