My mom is worried about my dandruff.
It’s mainly along my spine and my fur there is a bit oily. I don’t scratch at it or anything, but she’s still worried. My fur elsewhere is nice and soft and purrfect.
A little background: I came to live with Mom this past March. She adopted me from a shelter where I was just getting over a bad respiratory infection. I had dandruff then, but Mom wasn’t too worried. She figured it would go away after I settled into my new home and had a stable diet, but it’s been 4 months and I’m still flaky. She feeds me Science Diet dry food and although she keeps offering me moist food, I don’t like it. She also took me to the vet when she first met me, but the vet didn’t say anything about my flakes. The vet did tell her that I’m between 4 and 6 years old and am in good health. (The vet at the shelter thought I was between 6 and 8…. hee hee … a kitty never tells…)

it sounds like callisto isn't grooming herself properly. it could be allergies, but in my experience oily skin and dandruff along the spine is just inadequate grooming on the kitty's part. try brushing her a little more (even short haired kitties need minimal human grooming sometimes!) and/or even attempting to bathe her with an oatmeal based shampoo.

I agree it sounds like you are not grooming your back as well as the rest of you. I know its hard to reach and you can't see it so why bother :-) Or maybe it is just a ploy to get your Mom to brush you which will help prevent this.

Hi, Callisto. I agree with the previous posters, but I also recommend a better diet, with no corn, wheat, byproducts, or soy. I have been put on a high quality food, and Meowmy can already feel my coat becoming softer and my skin less flaky.
Ciao for Now,
