My male neutered cat is spraying.
My male neutered cat is spraying he was neutered when he was five months old now he is six years old and this has been going on for some time now. He has had blood work, urine sample to check for infection now is on amitriptylin also I keep one of the plugin diffuser with feliway pluged in all the time and he is still doing it I just do not know what else to do my boyfriend wants me to put him outside or keep him in a cage all day I just do not know what else to do anyone have any advice. I have few other cats they haved all lived together since they were all kittens. Thanks

i know it's no comfort to read this, but actually spraying in a neutered male cat isn't all that uncommon. Make sure he's spraying and not peeing. Ernie sprayed around "his" litter box. He, like your cat, was probably marking his territory. If your bf is annoyed by this and yelling at him, that just makes it worse. I've heard that the Feliway spray is better than the plug-in. If the amitriptylin isn't working, then you need to ask your vet what else you can use. Watch outside to see if stray males are visiting, and watch your own cats to see if you spot any territorial issues.Putting him outside in the winter just isn't kind. Either is keeping him in a cage, but you CAN put him in bathroom while you're gone with a litter box and food/water and then just watch him while he's out. Look for signs of him about to spray-lifting the tail, backing up against something, etc. and say a loud "AH-AH-AH!" Clean the area with an enzymatic based cleaner like Nature's Miracle or he'll return to it.
