My kitten won't eat, drink or potty.

I don't know what to do - it's Sunday so the vet isn't open and I've had my 6 week old polydactyl kitten for 16 hours -- she has not went potty at all and won't touch food or water. I have tried wet and dry food. I've even tried holding it for her -- she licked it when I held it but never ate it. I have an older cat who I was hoping would be a little bit of a role model with her (monkey see monkey do) and she's not interested in anything but #1 - sleeping #2-bouncing around #3-watching her new surroundings. Also - when she chases the toy I have for her, she goes into extreme kill mode when she gets a good bite on it. She growls, hisses and spits while the whole time she's kicking and viciously swatting at anything coming close to her... Any comments on that last note? And any help on the whole not eating thing would be awesome - I'm worried about her!
Thanks -- Tiffany

To set your mind at ease, please do check with your vet tomorrow. Your kitten will need to go in for vaccinations and spaying anyway, so it would be good to introduce her to them. I don't think she's ill because you say she's active and playing. As for getting along with her older sib, that will take much time and patience on your part. The older cat will assume the role of "boss cat" and will probably hiss at the kitten. Supervise any interaction and when you go out, it might be a good idea to put the kitten in a room by herself with a box, food and water until you get home just until you feel you can trust the 2 of them together. Kittens should have voracious appetites. That concerns me that she's not interested in food. Are you feeding her the same thing she was used to where you got her from? You might also try mixing it with a little KMR (Kitten Milk Replacment in cans at the pet store in the cat section) or Cat Sip which comes in a box that looks like a juice box.

I had a kitten that did the same thing. She had breathing problems and cats with this cannot smell their food. I knew she was hungry so I put a little baby food meat on the tip of her nose and she had no choice but to lick it off. She devoured the rest of what was in the jar.
Your kitten's stomach is tiny and she needs to eat several times a day. If a cat can't smell its food, it won't eat. Try again before the vet visit. Isn't there an emergency vet available to help you? Your local police department will be able to provide you with a phone number.
