My cat is causing herself injury
My cat has a problem with constantly licking and scratching. The vet assumed it was allergies but we changed her food and give her baths but to no avail. She licks and chews her stomach and sides raw. Petting her will make her go into a frenzy of licking that area and you can see her skin spasm when you pet. For her own good, we got a cone for her to let her sores heal. With it on she'll sleep more often and will even crawl in your lap, however with it off she goes right back to licking.

Your cat needs to go back to the vet (or a different vet) for a correct diagnosis. Something is going on - could be a behavior problem or a health problem. First, is it possible that your cat has fleas? If so, she could be suffering from flea dermatitis. Second, if it is a behavior problem (excessive cleaning), this is from boredom, etc. I am no veterinarian, but I would think that your vet should at least give the poor cat a cortisone injection if the skin condition is that bad. The elizabethan cone is a good idea. These sores need to heal before she gets a more severe skin infection. I would just get her back to the vet ASAP! Best of luck.

I agree with Guest's answer. Something is definitely going on. When you say your vet "assumed", that's kind of telling. How thorough was the exam? A cone is a good, if not inconvenient stopgap, but it's not a cure. Cats will also groom in a frenzy if they are stressed out so research any lifestyle changes you may have made. And, baths can dry out her skin and make things worse if it is a skin condition, so don't overdo those. If you want to go back to the same vet, pin them down and tell them nothing has changed and it's even gotten worse. If you still don't get a satisfactory treatment, then seek out another vet, even a specialist in veterinary dermatology.

I had the exact same problem with my Poohbear. I finally found a product that absolutely stops the issue. Duralactin, you can Google it. Pooh hates the liquid, no problem with pill. Pooh was bald on abdomen, legs, shoulder area. I started him on the product, low and behold, all of his fur has grown back!!! He has stopped itching and digging and licking!
Hope this helps.
You can google duralactin. It is a natural product, Mild Thistle, and it does the job!
