My cat has been acting odd, help?
Hello, I have two cats: Muffin and Skittles. There was not a problem until about a week ago when Muffin began to act rather odd.
I have started to worry about my furry companion. It started a couple nights ago when she was curled up on my bed. Suddenly she sat upright, her tail bristling. At the time I didn’t see anything until my cat, Skittles, jumped onto the bed. Immediately she began hissing and yowling, attacking the tom ferociously. I had to separate the two, but she hasn’t been the same sense.
Now, whenever she hears a loud noise she’ll jump, eyes wide, and fur fluffed out. Usually she will run under my bed, where she will growl and hiss at the slightest noise. There are times she is okay being with Skittles, but a lot of the time, she gets rather angry, yowling extremely loud and clawing him if he wanders to close. Another odd occurrence is when she gets infuriated with him Skittles begins to roll around in front of her, rubbing against anything in his path.

I don't have much experience with cats doing that but i have enough. It is probably a space issue. The bed might be where skittles usually sleeps and when it saw muffin there, it probably got defensive. Cats like their space. They sometimes leave their odor somewhere to tell that it is their spot. It might be something more, though, if it happens again.

How long have you had them together? Usually when you get a new arrival, your cat likes to defend their territory, especially if it's a tom cat. When Muffin gets angry, Skittles will purr and roll around like you said. He is trying to tell Muffin that he means no harm and is just playing. That;s what my cat, Mittens did when we brought him to my grandma's house. She has three she-cats and he just wants to tell them that he means no anger or harm. Hope I could help! ♥

I don't think you mentioned if Muffin is spayed, but if she isn't, she may be getting hormonal. Also, if Skittles isn't neutered, that's an idea also. If Skittles is an outdoor cat, he may be picking up some scent outside that makes Muffin crazy. Also, check your yard when Muffin starts that. Sometimes, if there's a cat or something outside, the inside cats will fight. I think it's called redirected aggression or something like that.
