My 4-month-old kitten sticks his paws in the water bowl?
My kitten Ponyboy likes to stick his paws in the water bowl instead of drinking the water. I am at a point where I'm frustrated with the mess he's creating as well as worried for his health because I feed him mostly dry food. His 1-week-older half-brother doesn't do this and drinks out of the bowl like a "normal" cat. How can I make Ponyboy drink his water?

First of all, PB is a baby and babies of any species are notorious for getting into things and making messes. If pieces of dry food get into his water, that's probably what he's trying to fish out. He may also see his reflection. If you don't care to invest in a pet "fountain" such as a Drinkwell, put his bowl on a rubber mat like a dish drainer mat or simply on a folded beach/bath towel. If he likes to play in water, turn the sink faucet on to drip for a while and let him play in that.

I like to play in my water, too! It's so much fun to splash it everywhere. Moving water really fascinates me. I like to watch the toilet flush and the bathtub fill up, too. My Human finally gave up and put the plastic lid from a tupperware tub underneath my waterer to contain my mess. I get plenty of water from licking it off my paws so my Human doesn't worry too much about me not drinking enough. (I also drink when she's not watching.)

I was like that, too... I even spilled the whole big water bowl all the time cuz I was trying to swim in it.
Finally, Mom got me a drinkwell fountain and I am sooo happy that I never spill it at all. I can drink the water as it comes out and don't need to play in it.
My dogs all love it, too!!
Telly likes to play in his water sometimes, and he's an old man. I just put his bowl on a mat to soak up any splashing. Ponyboy's probably drinking like normal when you're not watching. Provided he's healthy, his survival instinct will prompt him to drink when he's thirsty, but also play when he's feeling silly.
I like to play with my water bowl too especially when Mommy puts ice cubes inside my bowl. They are so fun to try and chase.
Mommy got a big plastci tray & puts our water bowl inside that so whenever my sisters & I make messes all Mommy has to do is wipe the tray off with a paper towel.
