Most awful poop smell known to man!!!

I've had my orange tabby, Oren, since he was separated by his feral mother in my neighborhood @ 4 weeks old. I've had kittens/cats my whole life so I did the usual, bottle-fed him milk replacer and provided fresh water every day, put him on mix of wet food and kitten chow, then straight to kitten chow, etc. Since his first crap to his most recent crap, it has been the FOULEST smelling cat poop I have ever ever smelled in my whole life. I'm not even joking, it's god-awful. I don't understand, it's not runny like diarrhea, it's really moreso like the consistency/odor of a human turd. In every other capacity, he is a normal, ferocious kitty, and he is now 7 months. I don't believe this to be coccidia, he's never had diarrhea and he is past the age of being susceptible . All I feed him is purina kitten chow, every ONCE in a GREAT while he will get a piece of steak or little bite of salmon. What the hell is wrong with this cat!?

Have you checked with your vet about this? I can only guess that he may have irritable bowel or something similar. Call your vet and see what he or she recommends that you do. If they don't have a suggestion, I would slowly switch your cat to a grain-free diet. My cat had a problem with certain foods and I switched her to Wellness grain-free canned and dry foods. It's been three (3) years and no problem with smelly or runny bowels since. Also, I don't recommend feeding your cat steak. A little salmon probably won't hurt. Just make sure there's no garlic or onion seasonings on anything you give him, as they can be toxic to a cat. Best of luck.

At the age of 7, my Diva Delilah can clear a room when she uses the litter box. We're talking eye-watering. Have you had him checked for parasites lately? An infestation of worms can cause foul smelling feces. People will also suggest that you experiment with his diet, but I would strongly caution you against that as any change of diet, including one to the more expensive foods, can cause stomach upsets. If he's thriving on what you're feeding him, don't change. Other suggestions are to keep his litter box scrupulously clean. You can also use a room freshener but I would suggest that you not use a plug-in as it is at cat nose level and can cause respiratory distress. Scrub the boxes once a week and put in fresh litter. And just a kind reminder--poop does stink. (You may also want to try a covered box.)
