Mosquito bites

My cat loves to play in my garden but I am afraid that mosquitos might bite her and make her sick or even kill her (like my dog many years ago). My cat is an Russian-blue, 1 year old. Do I need to give her some medications so that she can play in my garden once a day or should I keep her always inside my house ?

Kind regards,
Georg - in Japan

It's always safest to keep your kitty indoors, safe from other animals, toxic plants, or getting out of the yard and getting hurt. The danger of mosquitoes is that they do carry heartworm, although not in all parts of the world. I don't know if it exists in Japan. There is a monthly heartworm preventative you can give your cat, but if you can avoid the risk simply by keeping her indoors, that's what I would do.
