Lump on her back leg, not able to get to her Help?
I have a cat with a lump that looks to be the size and approximate shape of the tip-to-bend portion of my thumb on her rear right leg. I am away(FL, she's in MA) for a very long time and do not have control as she is usually at my father's house, as my mother has an allergy. I cannot get my father to admit she has said lump, but it is noticeable enough to not be a camera angle. It was not there Christmas, which was the last pic of her I got. Should I call my vet to ask about it and then, if he feels is serious/should be looked at, have him call my father to get him to bring her in? I am concerned about her, and it's known that, while he loves her very much, he sees her more as a cuddle-thing that happens to be alive and VERY smart. His girlfriend is worse, and refuses to think cats are even as intelligent as a fish. Should I call the vet to ask him to influence?

A lump that has suddenly appeared (or any lump) should be checked by your vet. If you are not going to be at your father's any time soon, you can casually mention that you have scheduled an appointment for kitty's annual check-up, or something of the sort, and hopefully your father will get her to the vet. When you make the appointment, mention the lump. Your veterinarian should do a head-to-toe assessment on your cat for its wellness check-up. He/she will be better able to determine if the lump needs to be aspirated (needle biopsy). Any fluid or cells drawn from the lump will be biopsied to rule out cancer, etc. Hopefully, all is well!

This is a really touchy situation. I kind of have the feeling that no vet appointments will be kept even if you do make one. Your dad might tell the vet he will bring her in, but unless the vet gets across to Dad that this is serious and convinces him to bring her in, your dad probably won't. In addition, the GF might put her 2 cents in with Dad and not wanting to tick her off, Dad might just leave things status quo. My in-laws never vetted their dog until she got an infestation of maggots in her back end and I took over her care. Is there a family member or friend in MA, who could take her to the vet's for your dad? I'd even pay them for their time and fuel. Heck, if I was close by, I'D take her! This is a serious issue and needs to be taken care of asap. Good luck and let us knw what happens.
