Litter box intimidation. What can I do?

I have two cats, one is male and the other is female. They have been with each other since birth. The female cat likes to "intimidate" the male cat while he uses the litter box, by pawing at him. This has caused my male cat to be very uneasy when using the litter box, and has caused him to use the carpet instead on a few occasions. We have two litter boxes, located a fair distance from one another, and I keep them both very clean.


What can i do to change these behaviors?
