Kitty wants out, kitty wants in, kitty is driving me NUTS!

I love my cat but man, is he driving me crazy.
I let him out regularly so he's not constantly cooped up inside.
But every night for the past few months he starts crying to go out, scratching at the door and mewing up a storm. He wakes me up and so I let him out.
A few minutes later I hear him crying to come back in so I let him in.
A few minutes after that he's right back to crying to be let out and the process repeats until I get up and leave for work. He usually starts up around 4 or 5 am and does it till I leave at 8am.

What can I do to curb this behavior?

Thanks.

If your cat is not neutered, that's one big issue. Not only does have the wanderlust that unaltered animals all have, but he's also out there making kittens which will probably not survive for one reason or another. It's not a good idea to let your cat out at night. There are many, many dangers out there during the day for an outside kitty and double or triple the amount at night. Play with him about an hour before bedtime to tire him out (not frantic hyper play because that will just work him up so that he really won't be able to settle down). If he's alone all day,he's probably bored and restless. Can you afford a playmate for him? If you can't don't even consider it because that's not fair to either cat. At best, I can only tell you to get a pair of ear plugs and tune him out!

Mr. Kitty

I agree with the previous poster - it is not a good idea to let cats outside - day or night. There are too many dangers - weather, cars, dogs, disease, predators. Your kitty may be bored and demanding to be let in or out could be a way of getting some much needed attention.

One thing I have noticed, is that a cat is always on the wrong side of a closed door. Perhaps you could try a little more playtime before bed in lieu of allowing him to roam outside. Good Luck to you and your kitty. =^..^=
