Kitty nutrition Question
I am currently feeding my kitties Purina Adult. I have 9 kitties total eating at my house and they go through an 18 lb bag in about a week and a half. I know this isn't the most nutritious food, so I was looking at changing.
I was told that a more nutritious food in about the same, or smaller, sized bag would last longer as it doesn't include as many 'fillers', Is this true?
Are there any brands that you would recommend for my situation. I am looking for something affordable but of good quality.
One last thing, Are there any other recommendations for feeding my pride?

a major difference between kitten food and adult cat food is the protein content. the reason why your kittens are eating so much food so quickly is because they're not getting enough protein - so they must eat more of the adult food to get the same amount of protein as kitten food.
i would recommend switching to kitten food, simply because you can be sure they are getting the nutrition they need for growing. the better nutrition they're getting, the less excess amount of food they will eat.
i have taken animal nutrition courses at the college level and am currently applying to veterinary school.

Feeding a higher protein diet would be best, it does not have to be "kitten" formula, it just needs to be high in protein and low in carbs..Wellness core, Evo cat and kitten are good brands. With these brands you do not need to feed as much. Also the bags are always overstated in the amount to feed. YOu should feed according to their weight. So formula would be (weight of cat) x 13.6 then add 70, this equals the amount of calories you should feed your cat. I would like to recommend wet food for your pride, but obviously that would be too much money with all those mouths to feed.

Are your kitties actually kittens? I don't see that in your question. You will get many answers and opinions on what to feed your cats on this board. I feed Purina One and have since I've had cats. It's not the cheapest nor the most expensive and my cats consistently get straight A's on their veterinary report cards. It's readily available at both the pet and grocery stores in many different formulas and bag sizes. If your cats are not kittens, I am not certain I would feed them kitten food. It's high in fat and that could have not-so-good ramifications down the road. Izzie ate adult food only because he was constantly in Ernie's food dish, from the time he was five months old and it did him no harm whatsoever. Neither of my cats are voracious eaters (I go through a ten # bag about each month). There are some PetsMarts who sell damaged food bags (the food is still good only the bag is ripped), but you need to ask the manager.

Purina is not at all a good brand of food. Not at all. It could cause serious health problems later on. There are too many fillers and by-products. These are not good for your cats. They also contain addictives which hooks your cat into the specific brand. It's a good idea to change brands as soon as possible.
What do you call affordable? I only have 1 cat and I feed him Wellness. It costs $25 per 5 lbs but it is a great quality and contains no animal by products, no corn or corn gluten, no wheat or soy,no artificial perservativesand no colours or flavors and makes your cat feels full so you don't need to give them that much. I hope this helps!

Have you ever thought of trying holistic cat food it is all natural and very nutritious. It has no artificial flavors, no fillers, no artifical colors, no corn or corn gluten, no wheat or wheat gluten and it goes a very long way. Reason being they are getting all of the vitamins and minerals and the are satisfied. My cat Blue just loves it and he is very healthly. Try this link: www.healthpetslive.com
