kitten with swelled up face HELP!!!!!!!!
we cant take him to the vet till monday but the swelling is mostly on his right side in between his jaw ear and eye my sister noticed it 3 days ago but didn't say anything i really didn't notice this until my dad said something about it while i was at the rodeo his jaw has some swelling on it but the swelling is rock hard he can open his mouth and eat but it hurts him it has started to make his eye water ive checked it out and i dont see any scratches whatsoever that could be infected my dad said it was not a snake bite since the cat would be dead by now and that his jaw is not broken it would be hanging there and he would be in great pain and he would not be eating but i want to get suggestions from you we are going to try and shave off the fur to see what we find tomorrow i am worried that what we find might determine if we take him to the vet or not im thinking that it could be a snake bite i realize i need to take him to the vet but the vet closed today at noon and closed tomorrow

My kitten had a very swollen area around her mouth. What would be her bottom lip. It went away after I held an ice pack to it (we had to fight that one) But then she had her eye swell up and get extremely gooey and she wouldn't open it. Even with her lip swollen she still ate but loved sucking on ice cubes.
We went to the vet and discovered she has two things.
1. and esophila granuloma complex. I have no idea how to explain it but there are 3 types. the other two being more sever than this one. She randomly swells up on her mouth and cheek area. Mainly due to stress.
2. She has been diagnosed with feline herpes. Which is a respiratory infection. This caused her eye to swell greatly and even the cheek on that side. We had to do eye drops 2x a day for 3 weeks.
There are many things that could be wrong. I would not reccommend shaving her as that will only increase the chance that her problem could worsen. I would definitely call an emergency vet and watch how your cat is acting.

Hi,
I wish I could give you a good answer but but can you ring an emergency vet for advice? Even if it was in another town or city I am sure they could tell you what to do till you see a vet.
Hope he is ok :(

Is there no emergency after hours place u can take him too? He won't like it but for the mean time put an ice pack on it for now, that usually helps with swelling. I wouldn't shave off his fur yet, as u don't know what u are dealing with and might be doing if for nothing. Might be some sort of fly or bug bite that affected him that way. But try the ice pack and c how it goes. I might take the swelling down enough to look through his fur afterwards. Hope he is ok, hang in there.
