Ragdolls are big cats--in the Maine Coon class. Birmans are smaller. Males will almost always be larger than females. As for personality, I think it depends on the individual cat rather than the breed. I have a bunch of Maine Coons and each has a different personality. If you are considering a purebred cat, do learn how to choose a good breeder. And although cat personalities can change over time, it is always a good idea to choose a cat with the personality you like. Pedigree breed rescues are one option for getting a purebred. I am not sure about the US, but here in Japan, Ragdolls are common than Birmans., which may or may not mean that they are cheaper.
