Is the kitten safe?

I have an 11 month old MC mix cat/kitten. I have been trying to get him a friend for a while - he is extremely playful, and it seemed wrong to make him play by himself or with us boring humans.

So this is the third time. this first two were adult females, and both had a propensity to attack poor Nero. The first, because she thought he was irritating (he was way interested in another cat, and followed her everywhere) and the second for no obvious reason.

So I've given in and picked up a kitten. the kitten is really tiny, and completely fearless, though, so I'm a bit worried. Within five minutes of meeting each other, he walked right up to Nero - and Nero's head is nearly the same size as the kitten! I've watched them - Nero really wants to play, and has mock stalk/pounced the kitten a couple times, to no complaints. also play whacked him a couple times, and groomed the kitten after he accidently stepped on him. Kitten doesn't mind, but I'm a little worried.

I would probably not leave them alone together for long periods like while you're at work until the kitten gets a little bigger. Nero is still pretty young and probably doesn't know his own strength and may hurt the kitten by mistake just by playing too hard. My 11 month old is only 7 pounds and she and the 6 month old (6 pounds) play really hard and chase and pound on each other till somebody screams. But they are pretty close in size so nobody will get hurt and I don't worry too much. So I would just do supervised playtimes until you feel more secure that the kitten is ok alone with Nero.

My Harvey hates kittens and bops them on the head whenever they pass by him. Your situation sounds complicated; since you probably (obviously?) don't want to get rid of the newcomers, I would try just watching and seeing what happens. The bottom line is if no blood is drawn. My cats (7) have all decided where their "territory" is and just ignore each other--except for the ones who are friends.

Sounds like they are going to get along fine, they are just seeing what they can get by with first, lol, without upsetting the other, it just takes a while and if you see them playing together they should be just fine,
God Bless!!

I think that if nero is not trying to hurt the kitten then the kitten is safe. but if it looks like nero is trying to harm the kitten then you might not want to leave them alone together
