Is my cat ill or is this normal?

Hi
My 14 month old cat Lucy, has recently, in the last week begun to drink a lot more water than usual and is also eating more dry food (she has both wet and dry). She doesn't seem to have a sparkle in her eyes (only my opinion) or want to go out much either. I am planning on taking her to the vets after the new year but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

She could be drinking more just because she's eating more dry food. I'd go with your instinct though and take her into the vets since you think she's not her normal self. As long as she is eating and drinking well it's probably OK to wait for a few days. Drinking a lot could be the sign of something like diabetes but since she is young and there's another explanation (eating more dry) that's unlikely so I wouldn't worry too much. Getting her checked out in a few days will confirm if there's anything to worry about and getting an annual check up is a good idea even for young healthy cats as it helps catch any problems early when they are easy to treat.

Any time a cat or kitten starts eating and drinking more is a good reason to get them to the vet as soon as possible. Considering your cat's young age, I doubt that it is anything serious. However, your cat goes outside and could have picked up anything from any other cat it came in contact with. The eyes are good clues as well. If they are cloudy, or "lose their sparkle", something is going on. Hopefully, it is not anything too serious. Best of luck.
