Ayla

Is it good to get 2 kittens?

We have a little kitten, Ayla. We want to get another kitten that will be ready mid November. I want Ayla to have a friend and to grow to be social with felines!!! She has so much fun with us and she sure is a ball of energy, I think she would have so much fun with a kitty friend too! What are your oppinions and experiences???

If you have enough time, love, and money for another kitten - I say go for it if you want another one. Cats often enjoy having a feline friend. Kittens usually appreciate having another kitten to play with too.

Allie

When Allie was 4 months old, I brought home Bailey who was 2 months old. In very little time at all they were great pals and had a blast playing. To this day, Bailey is the only one that Allie never seems bothered by. Allie is sort of a Diva and usually pretends the others don't exist but she lets Bailey share her space. When I have gotten each of mine, the last one was still a kitten and was the first to accept the newcomer and enjoy the new playmate. Introducing a new kitten to an existing kitten seems to be the easiest transition as far as introducing cats goes. But as Mr. Fez pointed out, please be sure that you are prepared for the extra expense. For me, having 6 is wonderful but the food, litter and vet bills multiplied by 6 is HUGE. Nevermind cleaning up after them (for 2 cats you need 2 litterboxes) and making sure they all get love and playtime with Mom.

Sassy

At teh SPCA where I volunteer we always recommend getting 2 kittens if you are able. People who just get one kitten often come back a few weeks later to get them a playmate and people who get 2 never regret it.

Kittens are very easy to introduce to each other and you should just try to get one that is a similar age/size and they will quickly become good friends and playmates.

Good luck finding a little playmate for Ayla. Also I read her page and its quite common for kittens to be identified as the wrong sex when they are small as they look similar to start with.

Izadore (Izzie)

I don't know of anyone in our Catster Circle of Furrenz who has multiple cats and regrets it. I have 3 and they are all as diverse as they can be. I say "go for it!' and post photos of the two new buds when you can!
