Horatio

Is Iams better than 9lives?

Alright, well before we adopted Horatio we obviously went out and bought everything he needed. Before buying, I went on here and looked up answers to most of my big questions(since Horatio is my first cat). So I took the advise of a lady on here that said shes been feeding her cats 9lives for the longest time, and she/they love it! So that is what I bought, 9lives Growing Years. However the vet said that I needed to step it up a little and either buy Iams or Science Diet. Science Diet is just a bit out of my price range, so I was wondering is Iams better than 9lives? I just want the best for my little prince, and I want to make sure he stays healthy and lives a very long life with us =) I also heard that one of the brand names of cat food either purina or Iams hurts the animals they test the food on...is that true? Cause I certainly dont want to provide to a company that abuses animals in any way! I'd really appreciate anyone's opinions! Thanks =)

Yes Science diet is a step up but not too far up lol. I buy Ayla the small bag of science diet healthy development for kittens and it's only 9 dollars. I have heard that Iams does hurt animals to test their products or something like that but I'm not sure that's true, sounds a little far fetched. Ayla eats wet and dry and it gets a bit pricy but we find a way. Good luck with feeding Horatio he is adorable!

I would recommend Innova Evo cat & kitten food (canned).

Here is a website that you can read about feline nutrition, that can explain the types of food that will benefit your kitten for life: catinfo.org

A great book for you to read is Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life by Elizabeth Hodgkins D.V.M. You can probably find it at your library.

Sprinkles

i wouldn't feed either if it's the dry you are talking about. both have far too many carbs.

if it's canned your talking about. MOST brands will do. just follow a couple basic requirments. it should not have any dye or color, it shouldn't have gravy, and it should have at least 4 meat protein sources.

and supplementing with raw meat is great. I use chicken heart as it's a dollar for a package of them.

You'll get very mixed reviews here about what is and isn't good enough for your kitty. Here is the simple answer: feed the best quality food you can afford. Iams is a great middle of the road food. If Iams is in your price range I'd also check out PurinaOne and Eukanuba as I think all three are priced about the same.

Horatio is going to be healthy even if you can't shell out $20 a bag for his food!
