Introducing a new cat to the family.

We have been a one cat household for 3 years & we recently got a new cat. Any suggestions of making this transition easier

Introducing a new cat to existing kitties is always going to be a play it by ear situation. (no pun intended)
You have to firstly remember that cats can be very territorial, and that smell is extrememly important to them. You should always, seperate your new cat from the main part of the house for the first few days untill thier smell starts to mix with the house,even though your resident kitties cannot see your new friend..they will know he/she is there. The most important thing is to take it very slowly and to take note of your resident cats reactions carefully. Alot of cats learn to love eachother in time, and if not they usually tolerate other cats in the house that they are not fond of. Here is a link you may find useful.
