how to relax or train my cat to like the car?
I travel overnight two days a week. I have a 2 1/2 year old male cat who was bottle feed is very attached to people. Even being alone for a couple hours will cause him to cling to you for days. I have tried to bring him with me, I stay at a relatives house where he is pampered, but he hates the car. If he even thinks he has to get in the car, he runs and hides. I don't want to cause him stress by traveling with him but I know he would be unhappy and unbearable if I left him alone for two days. Any advice, suggestions, ideas?

Your kitty may not like the motions and vibrations he is subjected to in the car, even if it means he still gets to spend time with you. You may want to accustom him to a pet sitter, friend or relative who can take care of him while you travel so that he does not have to travel in the car and he can stay at home. It may mean a little extra work and exposure, but there must be some pet sitters in your area that you can leave him with that would mean he would not be "left alone" but with people he knows and likes.

Hi! I have 6 cats, but only 1 REALLY likes traveling in the car. Because of this, I bought from Drs. Foster & Smith, The I-GO2 Carrier. It hooks up to the seat belt, and then I put the shoulder strap it comes with around the headrest for further stability. It comes with 2 tether straps inside attached to the frame. When I take my kitty, I always put a little vest-type harness on her, and then attach both tethers to the leash hook on her vest. That way, if I stop suddenly, not all the pressure will be on her neck but will be absorbed by more of her body. She wasn't really happy with the carrier flat on the seat, because she couldn't see out, so I made a "booster seat" out of a large litter box & put the carrier on this & now she can see out & loves it. It has a mesh window that just zips shut, but I leave it unzipped in the car because then I can continually pet her. However, if she was scared, I would zip up the mesh cover in the car & I know she would feel more secure that way.
