Slow and steady. When you bring your new kitty home - have a room ready for it (it's best to separate them while they get used to each other’s smell). Make sure it has a litter box, food dishes, a bed and scratching post - and toys. Let them smell each other through the door - feed them on either sides of the door so they associate good things with each other’s smell. Then take a towel and rub it on each of them and switch. Over time - you can have supervised visits - let your resident cat into the room and see what they do. Then when they have reached a comfort level with each other you can let the new kitty have the run of the house. There are two introductions going on here - your kitty to the newcomer and the newcomer to the house. It takes time and patience. Good luck.
