How do I train my kitten to use the litter box?

she keeps urinating in one of my big plants instead. I guess she likes the dirt. How can I get her to stop that and start using the litter box?

You might try scooping some of the soiled dirt from the plant and sprinkle it in the litter box. Also confining a kitten when you are not around to the room the litter box is in is usually a good idea. They learn where it is and are less apt to having accidents.

It sounds like your kitty may not like the choice of litter and is using the plant because she likes the feel of the dirt. Adding dirt to the litter box as already suggested is good, but you can also try different litters. Cat Attract is wonderul and has a money back guarantee. We simply love the stuff. Some cats just don't like the grainy feel of litter between their toes, so if you can't find any litter that she will accept, you may want to put dirt in the box. It won't keep the smell down, but it's better than having her use the plant.

Also, you did not mention if she poops in the box. It may be the type of box she's rejecting and not the litter. I'd change the box if she doesn't ever use it or the litter choices fail. Try one with/without a hood, in a new place, etc.

Is the plant close to the litter box or in a different room? If a kitten's not used to a box, she might go where she feels comfortable. If she's playing and the plant's in the same room with her, why go to another room for the box when there's a perfectly good alternative? Putting multiple boxes around the house might solve some of the problem, along with the previous suggestions concerning the litter.
