You can try using a water spray bottle to deter them when you catch them. But they will probably still do it when you're not looking. Last year when Kira was a kitten, I had to only put safe unbreakable ornaments with plastic safety hooks on my tree. She was climbing it and was fascinated with anything that dangled. The tree skirt was never in place and putting presents under it was just not a good idea. Now I have Maggie who is about the same age Kira was so I expect another year of the same. Unless you can close the door and keep them out of the room, all you can really do is make the tree as safe as possible for them (if it's live, do not put aspirin in the water and try to cover the tree stand because even the pine sap can make them sick if they drink it) And none of those stringy icicle things or sharp hooks that can be eaten and will shred their intestines. I am not using any of my precious family heirloom ornaments or glass bulbs.

I've had cats all my life and there really isnt any good way to keep them away from your tree. I have found rolling a newspaper and hitting it in your hand and yelling no works pretty good. I've been lucky. I have 6 cats and not a problem. I don't put the icsicles on or anything on the bottom. They love to lay under it. Good luck

Jake

My mom has a fake palm tree that has lights and ornaments on it year round in her house. I moved back in a few months ago when Jake was not even 3 months old. As he got older he figured out how to climb it and get on the mantle that it sits near. He would start chewing the branches and play with the ornaments. I bought him some cat grass that I grew myself and since then he leaves the tree alone! And he is still a kitten at 7 months old. He will start to mess with the tree if there is no kitty grass....so try getting some of that. I get them at Wal-mart for about 3 dollars. If your kitty does well with that you may want to buy oat grass seeds and soil and grow it yourself because that's all it is. Unfortunately, I can't find the seeds anywhere. Good luck to you!

Diego

Darling kittens. They look like my Dharma. Hang the Christmas tree (a small one) from your ceiling rather than from the ground up (I hope you have high celings). If you are creative this can look pretty artistic and cool.

Your friends and family will think you are trend setters. Presents can still be under the tree .Your tree will be cat proof.' A early Merry Catmas to you, friends and family.
