How do I get my kitten to stop attacking my dog?
I have a 5 year old dog that I love named Bear. Now Bear is a sweetheart, but recently I got a kitten & my dog already loves it. Sadly, the kitten doesn't feel the same and has recently started attacking Bear. The kitten is sweet & playful & seems like he is playing. But he hisses and claws at bear and like leaps at him. Help?

It's possible that the kitten IS playing, especially if Bear is quite a bit bigger than him. Dogs and cats don't play the same way. A dog will put his rear up in the air, smile, pant and wag his tail. If you've ever heard 2 cats playing, it sounds like they're killing each other. There is hissing, leaping and clawing. You don't want to raise your voice, because Bear will think you're yelling at him and the kitten won't really care. I usually let my animals work it out for themselves unless it gets really nasty or one is in danger. Chances are that Bear will get to the point where he's had enough and let the kitten know. Don't discourage it. Also, try to play with the kitten yourself as much as you can to 1) tire him out and 2) give Bear a break. When you see the kitten start to get a little too intense, remove him and put him in a "time out" in another room. As long as you don't shriek at him or hit him, he'll get the message.
