Hey I was wondering if anyone had ideas for my name?
I was rescued yesterday with the name Cotton, but the parents at my forever home arent sure its worthy of me and want to find the best name!
So far Ive been sleepy and vocal and ran around alot. I also am a fluffy little boy who likes to be pet.
Thanks for the help

He is beautiful! He looks blue, right? One of my favorite colors in cats, and with such a lovely coat too. He definitely deserves a less common name than Cotton.
Your new kid looks like he might be a Norwegian Forest Cat or Maine Coon at heart... he may even have some Angora in him, but the fullness of his cheeks leads me to believe he's probably more likely one of the first two. Maines tend to have pronounced fur tufts at the tips of their ears, but sometimes these don't develop until a cat matures. Either way, I'd suggest you consider what he'll look like as an adult when naming him. His luxurious coat will probably be sleek, with a plume of a tail and an aristocratic ruff on his chest. I think with his striking coat he's going to look like a very regal animal.
My Captain Jack prettymuch named himself, having just one eye. But it took me two weeks to name Kerra, my other cat. Sometimes you just have to wait till the name comes to you! Best of luck!!

Welcome to Catster! We always like to tell people who are looking for a name for their baby to think about their favorite musicians and their songs, their favorite authors, book characters, etc. You can also research kitty names and their meanings online. Izadore was supposed to be "Isabel" after "Izzie" on "Grey's Anatomy" but when we went to his vet and she examined him, she said, "U-mm, what about 'Izadore'?" when she discovered he was a boy. Izzie has so many nicknames I used to think he didn't recognize his real name. Little I Need A Name is gorgeous though. Good luck and post more photos and his rescue story when you get a chance!

You're beautiful. What about Silver Fox with a nickname of Foxie?
Mom named Tia Sydibil by keeping the name her former family had given her and adding a combination of her deceased best friend's (my mom) first and middle names.
Charley Bleau Eyes got his first name from a young man who Mom worked with at an institution. He was severely handicapped but he loved Mom. He had beautiful blue eyes, just like Charley. The Bleau is spelled that way because his foster mom had called him that.

I think Izadore made a great suggestion! You should be named Linan (Little I Need A Name). And cotton is a type of linen, right?
I was named after the nine-fingered hobbit, since I was born with only nine claws on my front paws. >^-^<

Hey Cotton: We don't know how old you are but in our opinions you should keep your name if that's what you know. When our Mom adopted us, she kept our names because we know them. And, we think Cotton is a very cute name.

At night, as you sleep, when he's ready, he'll tell you. You'll wake knowing his name. Cats reveal their cat names to those they love the most, they dream them into you...and you wake, and it's there.

I ONCE HAD A CAT NAMED I NAMED COTTON, BECAUSE HE AS A KITTEN HAD A VERY LIGHT YELLOW PLUSH COAT. THIS REMINDED OF A SET OF BED LINENS. I HAVE AND STILL TEND TO STRAY KITTEN AND GROWN CATS- I AM MOTHERING TWO LITTLE MALE KITTENS- MICKEY AND SPIDER. I HAVE ALWAYS WAITED TO NAME MY CATS BY THEIR BEHAVIOR, PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE. THEY ARE MUCH LIKE WE ARE, AND AT TIMES THEY REMIND ME OF SOMEONE I KNOW.- FOR INSTANCE I ONCE HAD DOUG, SKITZY , POWDER ,MIXIE, MULATTE, FAROUCHE,AND ITTY. I NOW TEND TO SWEET PEA, COPPER, PACO,WHISPER,EBBIE,O.E., WILAMENA,AND MY NEIGHBOR SMOKIE.ALL WERE DECIDED AFTER KNOWING THEIR BEHAVIOR A LITTLE - JUST GIVE IT A COUPLE OF DAYS.

Hiya kitty!
Well, there is a "theme" that just came to mind when i look at him.
The movie "Grease" [and other "Rock-a-billy" / Greaser type things.
So as far as names go, how about:
-Grease [The movie]
-Zuko [like Danny Zuko]
-Shark [Sharks v.s. Jets]
-Jet [^^^]
-Dean [as in James Dean]
Or maybe you can think of some other "greaser" names.
My favorite is Zuko [zoo-ko]
Best of luck and happy naming!

oh my! you don't just look like me, you act like me...except maybe not as weird. (long story.)
i was hard to name. my name IS a story. but i had many names before i got this one (from the same people, again long story), and i bequeath them to you, as suggestions:
jim (jiminy)
benjamin (again with the jiminy)
benjamin alexis
benjamin alexis dryl, which was an excuse to call me ben a. dryl...the cat for people with allergies. i have strange people.
namaste (nah-mah-stay) literally meaning "i bow to you" in sanskrit, a greeting. more or less an equalizing greeting, from any level to any level-i've heard it compared to the saying "even a cat can look at a king" google it for more info...i wouldn't name a child this, but for a cat...well, it sort of makes the point that the cat is a person, and you did mention wanting a worthy name.
i came close to being namaste-well,meowmy's meowmy was horrified,"a pagan grandcat!" ...but then something else happened and i became wesley instead.

hello beautiful! gray cats like you are one of my owners favorites! (behind solid black ones like me, of course!) we like some of the names given, but you might just have to wait on some more of the personality to come out. it took my owner weeks to name her first cat. she walked in one day and said "hey miss kitty" and it stuck! it was a perfect fit too! :) now i am marshall, because all miss kitty's need a marshall dillon.... and my sister is lily after lily munster, because she is black and white like lily munster's hair...mom loves old tv shows.. one day it will hit you what your purrrfect name is! in the mean time, have fun!! marshall & lily

I recently acquired a beautiful Siamese from a flea market. They told me it was a "him",and I named it JAX. At the vet's, they found out that it was female--so now it is Jaxine. But I love the name Jax. I also saved a Siamese from the animal shelter and her name was Boo. So I added to it and she is Boo Bear. Asia is my oldest Siamese and Chenelle is my Maine Coone. Good luck with a name. But I suggest Jax.

Mojo was so named because he has six toes and what's a better Mojo Hand than that? However, we tried on several names, such as Boris (means brave in Russian), Evinrude, because he had one heck of a purr motor as a kitten, Hemingway, (the toes again), Rocky (for the squirrel, not the boxer), Gretzky (for his slap shot), etc. But Mojo stuck, especially when he turned his head as I ran the list of names past him while we were enjoying some lap time. So I figure that means I finally got it right. Watch, listen and try a few names on for size. His name will reveal itself!

Wow! You get the prize for the most answers to an Answers Forum question! Hope you got some good ideas. I find that my cats tend to name themselves. I had one cat who went through three names until I found one that stuck (the ever-imaginative "Kitty"). I have one moggy, Spike, who was given a tough, doggy name on purpose (he's really a sweetheart). The rest of my cats, pedigreed Maine Coons, are named after infamous historical characters or buildings at Harvard. Neverthertheless, I end up calling a number of them by their nicknames. "Divinity" is now called "Fluffy," etc. Give it time, and don't be surprised if you decide to change your cat's name at some point. Good luck and have fun!

Mom's first thought was Dorian, for the Dorian Gray in the Oscar Wilde novel, who was noted for his good looks. But he came to no good end eventually, so maybe that's not a good idea. Most of us got our names because one suddenly popped into Mom's head and when she tried it out on us, we liked it. Maybe that would work for you?

Tommy is my blue and was named partly for his personality and for his position in my home. In full he's Tommy Gargoyle. He was a stray and a bit of a tom cat and with his coloring and his looking over me and always being near me, he is my Gargoyle.

Hi Cotton--You're beautiful. If you answer to the name of Cotton your parents should keep your name. How would they like their's changed if someone adopted them? After awhile the name will just seem to fit you & they'll wonder why they ever wanted to change it.

There are alot of good names....Captain Jack Sparrow....Apollo....Buddy. My mom named me Lilbit and then because of my personality changed it to "Oui" even though I am a Russian Blue. Whatever name you are given won't be nearly as important as the playtime and lovin' you receive....another good name...Rascal. Best wishes for the best name that suits you to a "T." ..."Mr. T"....

When I adopted my 3-year old black short-haired
cat from PetSmart, he was named Johnson, which I
definitely didn't feel was appropriate. After living with him for awhile & observing his male
behavior, I decided to name him Bogart after the
legandary late actor.

You are a beautiful boy, and as a distant cousin, we would like to submit the name of Smokey Shadow. this name is, in part of your unsure past history>heritage >Shadow, and your exotic color >Smokey.
We hope you like our suggestion - Sir Jumper and Mr. Wriggles

Looks like a Russian blue so how about Mikhail or Misha for short after Baryshnikov. After all cats leap like great ballet dancers.

I always wanted to name a cat... "Mouse" lol. or Pickles. but this cat looks like a "Carter" or "Carver". i don't know why... I had a gray cat named TD cat. because he had been a stray and my mom kept saying "that Darn cat" so I shortened it to TD Cat.

Since he's grey and a male---how about "Greystoke" after the Tarzan character. (remember he was a Count or a Duke in the original story.....I can't remember which.) I am a also grey cat and my name is "Braveheart." My owner likes unusual names for us.

I, being the 'Queen' & spoiledest in OUR home, MOL. I think you are a handsome kitty and have a loving, playful, yet lightly micheous look in your kitty eyes. HEE-HEE
So, fur me? I think a 'Title' worthy of you would be such as: 'Mr. PurrBody', or 'Mr. Purr', fur short.
Or maybe, 'Grey-Titan' (course you'd meowy get 'Hey Grey' fur short, Mol)
But my sisfur's and I ALL??, think that 'Mr. PurrrrBody' just seems to FIT your meowy looks AND 'Katitude / Purrrrsonality',, IN your eyes =^..^=

Kitty Blue
When my dad was little his grey cat was named Kitty Blue. We had two grey cats over the years as we were kids and gave them each the same name. It was tradition. The last Kitty Blue lived 18 years. Great cats and a great, yet simple name.

i think "MORGAN" would be a perfect name for you! you're so beautiful and Morgan can be for a boy or a girl! mama has a kiki, a clancy, a seven and me- hannah! kiki is a hawaiian name for baby and seven has seven toes on her front feet. and clancy and hannah pretty much came to her the minute she looked at us!

Beautiful little baby Blue! If he's had that Cotton name since birth, why add to his stress of adapting to a new home by changing his name, too? On the other hand, if that was only a moniker assigned by shelter staff, wait and see what kind of personality he has. The right name will come to you or he'll come to you with the right name!

Congrats on your new kitty!
I volunteer for a local cat shelter (no kill) so I get to name quite a few kitties. What come to mind on seeing Cotton is that he has a Beautiful soft sleek gray coat which reminded me of FLANNEL pajamas....so FLANNEL is the name I choose.
Good luck with your baby!

I was trying to think of names I associate with the color grey...
Gandalf (as in Gandalf the Grey)
Clooney (as in George Clooney since he has grey hair but is still gorgeous!)
Sleepy (from Snow White)
Cumulus (another word for cloud)
I hope you find the name that fits your cat the best! I think sometimes it just comes to you.
Tajar is named after a mischievous, playful camp-tale creature whose name just came into my head as he was jumping on the furniture in my apartment. It just came to me and now it seems to fit him!
