Does my cat have an allergy?

Hi. My cat is scratching himself, has a mild case of feline acne on his chin, and has a slightly swollen lymph gland near his jaw. Could this be from an allergy, possibly a food allergy?

It sounds like there are a few issues with your cat: 1) Is he scratching himself because he may have fleas? 2) The feline acne may be from eating out of dirty bowls; and 3) The swollen lymph gland under his jaw needs to be seen by a vet. So, a trip to the vet is necessary and only your vet can make a diagnosis as to what is going on. A dose of topical flea medication probably wouldn't hurt, but I would buy it from the vet and not the over-the-counter stuff (unsafe) that is sold in the store. You can also purchase reputable flea medications (Front Line, Advantage, Revolution) at 1-800-PETMEDS. It's a little cheaper than purchasing at your veterinarian. Make kitty an appointment today. Best of luck.

First of all, what are you feeding your cat? Wet food might help with the itchy. If in fact your cat doesn't have fleas or ticks. Feline acne as Guest said, is from a dirty bowl. And again the swollen lymph node/gland does need to be seen by a vet. I don't think that all of these attribute to a food allergy. Its best to feed cats wet/grain free foods. However everyone has their own opinion on that debate. Good Luck with your kitty!!
