Coccidia and Bloating

I have a cat that went approximately six months with coccidia before being diagnosed and treated. Since treatment (about three weeks ago), her diarrhea has ceased but she is still very bloated. She frequently prefers to lay on her back. I've often heard this is simply a sign of a cat's trust in his or her environment, however I'm worried that my cat may be doing this more out of discomfort. She does NOT like getting her belly rubbed, as cats who roll over onto their backs typical seem to enjoy.

If she is unusually bloated or it is unusual behavior for her to lay on her back, take her to the vet. We cannot possibly diagnose what could be wrong with her over the internet. Please take her to the vet, you never know how urgent it could be.

Sassy

Three weeks after treatment her stomach should have settled down so you'd be best to call your vet and see what they think. Sometimes they can get bloated from worms or if their food disagrees with them or since she had coccidia for so long and just had antibiotics the "good bacteria" in her gut may not have recovered yet. In addition to whatever the vet suggests try getting some probiotics from a grocery/health food store and sprinkling that on her food. That will help make her healthy again and build up the good bacteria in her guts that can be affected by antibiotics or worming.
