Cat continues "false estrus"
My brother's cat was spayed a couple of years ago and continues to display behaviors of being "in heat." She recently had exploratory surgery and the vet said she couldn't find anything. The vet then contradicted herself and said not to give the cat catnip because it raises hormone levels. My brother is searching for the lab work - but we're both doubting this vet did an estrus swab. He's looking into the depo shot but he's not liking the risks.
My brother will no longer use this vet because she continually blames him for the cat's behavior (choice of litter, food, schedule - nonsense.) We are not novice cat owners and know it's about $$.
Until we find out whether and estrus swab was done or not (and then seek out a new vet with this info), is there an herbal supplement for kitty that will help calm her? It's the constant yowling that's most pertubing. We know she can't help it and just want to help her.

Hi,
I think you should look up pyometra as a precaution.
An x-ray or radiogram should be able to show if she has a uterine stub that has become infected. Hopefully, that's not the case, but better safe than sorry.
Usually though, once the uterus and ovaries are removed she shouldn't be having the problem you describe. It depends on whether or not the spay was done properly.
Best Wishes!
