Can I take my cats temp with a regular thermometer?
The vet wants me to take their temps tomorrow morning. Forgot to ask if a regular thermometer would be ok. I imagine so?

Yes you can. The best regular thermometer is a baby thermometer and/or a fast reading one. A cat's normal temperature is between 100.5 F and 102.5 F. Try to be gentle and maybe have someone to help you because if a cat is frightened, its temperature can flash right up to 103 F. If your cat's temperature is 105 F, then take it to the vet's straight away because that high of a temperature is serious. If your using a glass one, shake down the mercury, if using a plastic one, reset the digital display. Put pertrolium jelly on the end of the it so it will slide more easily into the kitty's "you know where". Hold the cat underneath the belly and lift up the tail. Move it slowly in and twist it slightly as it goes in. Allow her put the tail down so she is comforted. Talk to your cat to keep her relaxed. After the temperature is taken, remove thermometer slowly and gently. Clean it with tissue and rubbing alcohol. Sorry if this was wordy but I just wanted to make sure you knew how to do it.
