Boric Acid Treatment for Cats eye problem

Frodo has a clear runny eye, not red or swollen or pussy, its just like he is crying out of one eye...My grandma said she used to make a solution for her cats eyes and it always cleared them up...now i made the solution and let me say as long as i put it in his eye 3-4 times a day it quits running, over night when he wakes up it is running again...any ideas of what it could be and how many days it is safe to give him this?. The vet does not seem to worried since it is clear and not red or swollen or irritated.

Boric acid is a common safe eye rinse if you mix it with saline solution. Such as sterile saline people use for contacts. Because this seems unilateral (only on one side) its probably not a virus. Sounds more like there is a foreign object.

Splinter sand who knows. Keep it flushed. Plain sterile saline is good enough. Take cat to vet They can search the eye under magnification and find and remove any foreign objects. Even with careful flushing the object may not wash out and eventually lead to infection and blindness. That's my bet. Cats are the worlds greatest compensaters. If they act like They have a toothpick stuck in their side you can bet its a sword
