CatGenie Litter Box vs. Litter-Robot: 2025 Comparison

CatGenie VS Litter-Robot

Scooping poop and emptying the litter box is so last year! Our homes are more connected than ever before, so it makes sense that our cat’s litter boxes should also be automated. Imagine never having to worry about cleaning out the litter box as soon as you get home from a long day at work!

The CatGenie uses a unique and innovative system that connects to your house’s waste drains. That means you don’t have to scoop poop ever again, and you don’t even need to empty a waste drawer on this litter tray!

The Litter Genie, on the other hand, has a waste drawer that needs emptying, but where it excels is its Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to keep an eye on your cat’s health like never before. You can check when your cat has used the litter box to track their health and receive notifications when the waste drawer needs to be emptied.

In terms of their prices, both models are expensive, but considering the return that you get in terms of saved time, as well as the relief of not having to clean litter boxes every day, we think that it’s well worth it!

Both brands get rave reviews, but they’re also relatively new on the market, so you may not know too much about them. We’ll give you a detailed overview of each, so you can decide which is ideal for your cat.

Overview of Cat Genie Litter Box

CatGenie A.I. Self-Washing Cat Box - Latest Model

How does it work?

The CatGenie uses a unique process to dispose of your cat’s waste. It uses washable granules that feel and look like cat litter, but they are retained rather than thrown away. The solid poop is scooped out of the tray and disposed of by a waste pipe that links to your house’s drainage system. The granules are then washed using a solution of water and a veterinary-approved SaniSolution. They’re then air-dried, ready for your cat to use again.

Connectivity

You can download the CatGenie app to monitor the levels of the cleaning solution and check if maintenance tasks need to be carried out to ensure optimum performance. You can also track your cat’s health; the app will notify you if their bathroom habits change significantly.

Dimensions

The CatGenie measures 24.50 inches long by 19.25 inches wide and 21 inches high.

Summary

Pros
  • No cleaning required
  • Uses washable granules
  • Can be connected to an app
  • Litter free
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Long cleaning cycle
  • Some cats are scared of it

Overview of Litter-Robot Litter Box

11Litter-Robot WiFi Enabled Automatic Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box

How does it work?

The Litter-Robot uses a patented litter-sifting process that starts minutes after your cat leaves the box. The waste is quickly separated from clean litter and channeled into a drawer below it. The drawer has a carbon filter to make sure no nasty smells escape.

The Litter-Robot will notify you when it’s time to empty the waste drawer, either with a light on the machine or a notification to the linked app on your phone.

Connectivity

You can download the AutoPets Connect app and monitor your cat’s litter box remotely! You can keep an eye on when the waste drawer needs emptying, get notifications, and be informed about how often your cat is using the box when you’re not home. This can give valuable insights into their health, as you’ll soon notice if they use the Litter-Robot more often than normal.

Dimensions

The Litter-Robot measures 24.25 inches long by 27 inches wide and 29.5 inches high.

Summary

Pros
  • Can be connected to app
  • Full drawer indicator
  • Unique cleaning process
  • Carbon odor filtration
  • Easy to empty
  • Reduces waste by up to 50%
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Not suitable for larger cats

How Do They Compare?

Performance

Edge: CatGenie

CatGenie A.I.

If you’re looking for a new automatic litter box to minimize the time and effort spent on cleaning, then the CatGenie performs better. Once installed, you’ll never need to worry about cleaning out waste trays since the feces are sifted out and flushed into your drain system, and the reusable litter granules are washed and dried before being returned to the tray.

Price

Edge: Litter-Robot

These litter boxes aren’t cheap, so be prepared to shell out significantly more than a regular litter box. Compared to each other, the Litter-Robot is less expensive.

Durability

Edge: Litter-Robot

While both models are well-made and durable, the Litter-Robot takes the edge. There are fewer moving parts, and the machine only needs to be plugged into a wall socket. The Litter-Robot has an 18-month warranty, and the CatGenie has a 24-month warranty.

Design

Edge: Litter-Robot

The Litter-Robot is the most stylish cat litter box we’ve ever seen. The rounded design is available in two colors: grey or beige. It doesn’t look out-of-place and has a stylish blue night light that comes on automatically when it gets dark.

What the Users Say

To help make your decision even easier, we carefully researched what users of both models have to say about them. We read various reviews from different sites and checked out cat forums to see what users were saying there, too.

The consensus is that the CatGenie is a great buy, but the method that it uses to dispose of poop and clean up after your cat can take a long time. The innovative system uses washable granules cleaned every time your cat uses the tray, but some customers mentioned that the cycle takes 45 minutes. If you have multiple cats, they won’t be able to use it quickly.

Most users loved how low maintenance the CatGenie is but said occasionally, you may have to sift out smaller pieces of waste that the automatic sifter misses. While you’ll save a great deal of money on cat litter, you’ll have to remember to buy cleaning solution cartridges.

Although you have to empty the tray of the Litter-Robot, it’s a better product than the CatGenie simply because it’s more user-friendly, the app is better, and cats seem to adapt to using it more quickly.

Some cats will track a bit of litter out of the Litter-Robot, but this can be resolved by placing a mat in front of the box. Litter-Robot’s customer service is highly recommended, which is always a relief.

Conclusion

After our detailed reviews of the CatGenie and Litter-Robot, we think that the Litter-Robot takes the edge. Both these litter trays use innovative cleaning methods to make cleaning up after your cat easier than ever before.

The Litter-Robot is about as stylish as a litter tray can be, and it only needs cleaning out around once to twice a week on average. The app lets you know when the tray needs emptying and notifies you of any changes in your cat’s habits.

The CatGenie is still a great buy and will certainly appeal to owners looking for a complete hands-off litter tray solution. Once installed, you don’t have to clean up after your cat again! But if you have multiple cats, bear in mind that the cleaning cycle takes almost an hour, and you may find that your other cats need to use it within that time! For that reason, it comes second to the Litter-Robot.
