These scent glands are usually expressed during defecation and territory marking and have a powerful fecal smell. Hi. My cat constantly smells poop. She is 14 years old. I just had her treated for Hypothyroidism. The smell started after her treatment. Also, she is now pooping on the living room scatter mats and peed on my bed and living room recliner chair. The poopy smell is constant. I have washed her rear end with soap and water every 2 or 3 days but the smell is persistent. Could it be her glands?
